Looking back to see impact: Numbers from previous PC CARES grant

During the 6-years of the R01 research grant from the National Institutes of Health, from 2018-2024:

  • Throughout the project, we provided 733 hours of training to community, academic, school, national, and international audiences, including five in-service trainings on suicide prevention and wellness promotion to 610 school staff.

  • We hosted Trainings of Facilitators in 2019, 2022 and 2024.

  • In 2019, 41 people from 14 Alaskan communities were trained as PC CARES facilitators. After the training, 134 people attended learning circles in 8 communities in three different regions of the state.

  • After Covid paused in-person learning circles, we sent mental wellness care packages to 493 recipients in 49 communities in remote Alaska, with a total of 1,319 packages sent.

  • 238 people attended virtual learning circles 2020-2023 (three cohorts).

  • In 2022, 19 Rural Human Services students from 7 communities were trained. RHS students offered 35 suicide prevention sessions to community members, reaching approximately 300 additional people.

  • In 2024, 31 people from 9 communities were trained as PC CARES facilitators.

These facilitators hosted 10 learning circles in two communities, reaching 41 additional participants.
